Department is responsible for all print materials. Although privileges
are extended to several patron groups (see Borrower
Categories and Borrowing Privileges), Lane Library's primary users
are currently enrolled AASU students, faculty, faculty emeriti, and alumni.
Persons connected with any University System of Georgia institution may
check out materials by presenting photo identification; current affiliation
with the home institution will be verified prior to checkout. Community
patrons are welcome to use the Library's resources within the building,
but they do not have checkout privileges. Library patrons with checkout privileges are required to show photo identification and complete registration at the Circulation Desk. Using another patron's identification card is NOT permitted. Students must prove they are registered for the current semester and provide photo identification (AASU ID card, driver's license, etc.). To check out materials during semester breaks, the student must be registered for the next term. Faculty & staff must present an ID card from the home institution. Retired AASU faculty & staff may continue to use an AASU faculty ID card. Spouses and children must present faculty or staff member's ID card and some form of personal identification verifying relationship with faculty or staff member. AASU Part-time faculty -- In order that part-time faculty may have circulation privileges, Lane Library requires that each academic department supply the Library with a current list of part-timers for their department. This Part-time Faculty List must be received by the Library before the start of each semester and should be sent to the Head of Circulation and Interlibrary Loan. Lane Library is unable to check out books, media materials or equipment to any part-time faculty member who is not updated in our system through these departmental lists. Alumni must present an AASU Alumni Card indicating current membership along with photo identification. University
System of Georgia affiliates must present some form of picture identification.
Current affiliation with the home institution will be verified prior to
checkout. In general, circulating books are checked out for three (3) weeks with two (2) renewals; however, all transactions are governed by Borrower Categories & Borrowing Privileges. Items are renewed according to Borrower Categories & Borrowing Privileges unless a hold request has been initiated. Providing that they are not overdue or needed by another borrower, books may be renewed by phone at (912) 927-5332. Online renewal is possible through Your Account in GIL. Select Your Account from GIL's menu options, log in with your last name and Social Security number, then check the Renew? box(es) next to the title(s) of the book(s) checked out to you. Click on the Renew Items button to complete the process. Overdue books must be brought to the Circulation Desk for renewal. All loaned books are subject to recall after 21 days from ORIGINAL charge date. No library privileges are granted as long as overdue or lost materials appear on a patron's record. Patrons who return items 30+ days overdue incur a $5.00 service charge. Materials more than 30 days overdue are assumed lost, and patrons will be billed for replacement charges plus a $10 processing fee per item. Lane Library is under no obligation to send overdue notices. We do so as a courtesy. A hold request may be placed on any circulating item charged to another patron. Items with Hold Requests may not be renewed; overdue items with Hold Requests will be recalled. Holds must be requested in person at the Circulation Desk. Books are held at the Circulation Desk for one (1) week for the requester to check out, then they are returned to the shelves. Materials that do not circulate Non-circulating items may not be charged out of the Library. These include magazines, journals, periodicals, reference books, microfilm, microfiche, and most Reserve items. Only two (2) Best Sellers may be charged to a patron's record at any time. Lane Library reserves the right to search the personal effects of patrons who are suspected of concealing library property. Theft of library materials is a violation of the Official Code of Georgia §20-5052; §20-5-54. Excessive noise, games, and disturbing activities are prohibited in the Library. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The use of cell phones in the Library is prohibited. All cell phones must be turned off in the building.
