Living in
Savannah, Volume 2 ---- Web Page One
Introduction
The Living in Savannah scrapbooks
consist of photographs taken byArmstrong Junior College students for a Contemporary
Georgia course in 1939-40 and 1940-41. Both albums are part of the Florence Powell Minis
collection housed at the Lane Library. This volume contains 130 photographs and focuses on the
living conditions of the lower class people--Black and white--of Savannah (although there are
some photos of housing too). Like the student authors we present these photos without comment
or text. They speak for themselves about the conditions found in Savannah immediately before
America entered the Second World War. The text page includes the title page, preface and list
of contributors.
